As of late, I’ve had a couple things running through my mind. These things aren’t always necessarily related, but I thought I’d share them. Keep in mind, I’ve not thought about them and meditated on them, so they could be completely wrong, stupid or both.
I’ve had this thought rattling around in my head for some time now, I’ve just never said it out loud. Mainly because it seems to be one of those generalizations that aren’t in jest. Like the generalizations about rednecks, Italians, Baptists, etc. I mean, even those may upset someone, but most everyone knows it’s just jokes.
The other day, while Tom and I were talking about the latest headline, I don’t even remember what, I said it out loud and with an apology for thinking it. Apparently though, I’m not alone in this thought.
I don’t see, or can’t understand, how anyone who labels themselves as a Democrat or a Liberal can also label themselves Christian. Every single position that a Dem/Lib takes, that have a Biblical application, is absolutely contrary to the Word. I wonder how it is that they can’t see that, but then the ‘addendum’ to their position and how it’s contrary to the Word is that they “…don’t believe God meant it that way.” or “…my God doesn’t…”.
Here’s the problem with that. “Your” god may not have a problem with legal genocide, homosexuality or completely disarming his people, but see… “Your” god is no longer God when you use it in that way. “Your” god is no longer the One True and Only God. At that point you’ve taken Him and made him fit your beliefs instead of the other way around.
I was on a thread on some news site, reading comments about legalizing gay marriage and such, where someone had said you’re to hate the sin – love the sinner. Which, this is how I’ve always tried to handle these situations. A lady commented back saying that she was a lesbian who had a lesbian ‘wife, partner, etc’ and that she took issue with that statement. She was very nice and respectful in her reply, don’t get me wrong, but her reply was so stupefying I actually had nothing to say. Which, lets face it, that never happens.
She said she took issue with the ‘hate the sin’ part because that was then making it seem that she and her partner, who both claimed to be Christians, were sinning in the eyes of God. She said that it hurt her to know that people think what she is doing is wrong because she serves God.
This makes no sense to me. Any of it. I don’t see how you can be both Democrat and Christian, Liberal and Christian. You’re letting one of them down because you would live a contrary and confusing life if you were to be true to both.
The other thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that there are many who won’t acknowledge the truth of God’s Word because Science doesn’t support it. They say that they can only believe in what they can see and for God or the Bible to be real to them, they need proof. The simple answer of “It takes faith” isn’t good enough for them. They want a God with skin on it, so to speak.
Yet, these are the same people who were all for a healthcare plan that we weren’t allowed to see until it passed. Congress wasn’t even allowed to see it until it passed. It seems odd that they refuse to work on faith when it comes to God, but are quite happy to work on faith when it comes to Obamacare.
